Bei der bromornetrischen Bestimmung von Hexobarbital entsteht nicht 6b, sondem das Bromhydrin 7b. Unter gleichen Bedingungen ergibt Cyclobarbital-Calcium 7a. Aus 7 werden nach Eliminierung von HBr die Oxirane 8, nach vorheriger Acetylierung zu 9 jedoch die Cyclohexene 10 isoliert. Aus 7b wurde bei der Dehydrierung anstelle des erwarteten Cyclohexanon-Derivats das Lacton 12 erhalten.

Bromometric Assay of Calcium Cydobarbital and Hexobarbital

The bromometric assay of hexobarbital does not yield 6b but the bromohydrine 7b. Under the same conditions, 7a is obtained from calcium cyclobarbital. Oxiranes 8 are formed by elimination of HBr from 7, while after acetylation to 9 the cyclohexenes 10 were isolated. On dehydrogenation of 7b the lactone 12 is obtained rather than a cyclohexanone derivative.
