✦ Synopsis

Freshwater pearl mussels can reach an age of more than 100 years. They require highest water qualities and are threatened with extinction in Middle Europe. Although its ability to form pearls has been known for centuries knowledge of the biology of pearl mussels, notably that of the young ones is still incomplete.
