Biochemical and Medico-Legal Considerations of a F a t a l Megaphen (Chlorpromazine) Poisoning in an I n f a n t
Summary.
A case of megaphen (chlorpromazine) intoxication in a 2 year old child is reported. The child ingested 15--17 tablets of the drug. Respiratory arrest occurred shortly following an i.m. injection of 70 mg luminal (phenobarbital) administered for convulsions incurred by the megaphen poisoning. The causal relationship between the initial poisoning and the therapeutic dose of luminal as well as the toxicologic aspects of megaphen overdose are being discussed.
