โฆ Synopsis
In Hereford Inlet Estuary, high salinity prevails and copepods dominate the zooplankton, accounting for 89% of the population with Oithona, Temora and Acartia representing the most abundant species. Peaks of abundance for zooplankton occurred in the spring and late summer/early fall with minimum in the winter period. The annual cycle of abundance and qualitative nature of the zooplankton are similar to that described by Deevey (1960) for coastal waters outside Delaware Bay. A tentative hypothesis for the control of the cycle is that zooplankton is recruited primarily from coastal water outside the inlet with occasional contributions of fauna from the mouth of ela aware Bay.
