Abstract

An examination of daily rainfall data and other rainstorm studies have shown that about 231 severe rainstorms affected India during the period 1880–1990. This study is an extension of the previous study made by Dhar and Nandargi. This study, with specified locations of frequent rain centres and a large sample of 231 severe rainstorms, has confirmed the existence of the four rainstorm zones found earlier and has also found small zones in south‐east Rajasthan and along the east and west coasts of India. It has also specified locations of frequent rain centres during severe rainstorms.
