✦ Synopsis
It is shown that several hydroxy q&ones undergo photochemical transformation at low temperatures (1.8 K). This phenomenon, which is investigated by photochemical hole burning, is shown to be extremely matrix dependent. From spectroscopic data and from CNDO model calculations iP is concluded that the photochemical process involves both intramolecular and intermolecular hydrogen bonds.
