This paper examines issues of power and control in mental health service provision, as discussed by African-Caribbean parents within a series of focus groups. These issues are multifaceted and incorporate aspects of con®dentiality, stigmatization, accessibility and ethnic matching. The impact of migration and the option of community self-reliance are discussed, along with implications for the provision of mental health services.
