In het voorjaar van 1965 brengen de Beatles de single `I Feel Fine uit. Ook in Noorwegen slaat de Beatlemania toe. Gunnar, Sebastian, Kim en Ola zijn pubers en hun jeugd in Oslo staat in het teken van hun idolen uit Liverpool. In de zeven jaar dat de lezer de belevenissen van de jongens volgt (gemarkeerd door de volgorde waarin de singles van de Beatles worden uitgebracht), wordt hij meegenomen in de maatschappelijke stroomversnelling van de tijd. De jongens ruziรซn met hun ouders over kleding, de lengte van het haar en het volume waarop ze hun platen draaien. Na de middelbare school, als ze op kamers gaan en ieder hun eigen weg kiezen, storten ze zich in het echte leven. Soms met desastreuze gevolgen.
