In this work we study the carbonization resulting from an intumescence phenomenon of the fire-retardant formulation: ethylene terpolymer-ammonium polyphosphate/pentaerythritol. Characterisation of the intumescent coating is carried out using infrared spectroscopy and MAS-NMR of the solid state. The
