✦ Synopsis


Using XPS linearly adsorbed CO species were observed on Pt foil, as a result of the surface reaction between H2 and CO2 at room temperature. A small amount of bridged CO species was also detected upon adsorption of pure CO2 over R foil, which suggests partial decomposition of CO*. However, subsequent exposure to hydrogen removed the bridged CO species, while a small portion of additional linear CO species was formed.
