## Abstract Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are key mediators in extra‐cellular matrix remodelling and implicated primarily in bone growth, and particularly in osteoclastic bone resorption. We hypothesise that MMPs have a role in the increased bone remodelling resulting from oestrogen deficiency.
