✦ Synopsis

A sensitive method is developed to determine traces of uranium, thorium and plutonium in effluent streams from nuclear fuel preparation and recycling facilities. Samples are prepared by electrodeposition of homogeneous, very thin actinide oxide layers on brass plates covered by a polished nickel surface. This procedure allows the application of OLspectrometric control measurements. Samples containing about 100 ng of actinide element are determined by x.r.f., which corresponds to actinide levels of 0.1 mg 1-l in effluents under routine conditions. Simultaneous actinide determinations are possible. Fission products do not interfere.

A method for determination of thallium in sulphide geological samples by x-ray Γ‘uorescence spectrometry is presented. The samples were prepared in form of glass discs by fusion with lithium tetraborate and with potassium nitrate as an oxidizing agent. The limit of determination was 0.016% (w/w) Tl,
