This issue of Fuel Cells is a collection of invited papers submitted on the occasion of the Workshop on Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs) held in Albacete, Spain between 18th and 20th November 2009. The workshop was organised by the Fuel Cell group of the Institute of Renewable Energy of the University of Castilla-La Mancha based at the Albacete Science and Technology Park.

For the first time, the Institute of Renewable Energy of the University of Castilla-La Mancha organised an international workshop. It was devoted to the advances in electrolyte and electrode ceramic-based materials, manufacturing, stacks and applications, and SOFCs characterisation techniques.
