A conference on prototyping of information systems took place October 25-28, 1983, Namur, Belgium. The Call for papers of this conference stated: "Against a background of recent concepts for the implementation of distributed systems based on workstation computers various communicational, organizational and social issues gain increasing importance in the construction of computer based information systems and other affected groups into the development process. There is an urgent need to integrate end-users and other development groups into the process. New strategies for system development are thus needed." The various contributions were divided into four theme areas: (1) Prototyping and Database Systems Design, (2) Very High Level Languages for Prototyping, (3) Prototyping: Concepts, Tools, Experience and (4) System Development and Prototyping.
