✦ Synopsis

Kaplan does indeed note a number of "successes" by Arabists, and I believe that he is trying to be evenhanded in his treat ment of them. But by blaming Arabists for the Iraq fiasco, he so tilts the analysis that it loses its claim to balance. That remains my reading of the book.
