The emergence of memoirs and documentation from the intelligence battles of the Cold War provides insight into the challenges facing today's CI professionals. A brief examination of Markus Wolf's Man Without a Face, together with Battleground

Berlin by Murphy, Kondrashev, and Bailey, is used to demonstrate the contemporary relevance of their collective experiences as well as the lessons that CI practitioners can learn from the successes-and failures-of Cold War intelligence operations.
