โฆ Synopsis
Though technical intelligence has been gathered for millennia, present-day practitioners have few case studies to contextualize their efforts and sharpen their approaches to the field. Two of the most important historical studies of technical intelligence are analyzed: that of Sir Francis Bacon, whose New Atlantis envisioned a society that gleaned the most advanced technologies from around the globe, and that of Reginald V. Jones, the head of Britain's scientific intelligence program during the Second World War. Though Jones's aims were military rather than commercial, his views on how to structure a technical intelligence program are of great utility for present-day competitive intelligence professionals.
