Within Temptation is a taut, intelligent, polished romantic suspense. And with a beautiful balance between a murder mystery, family secrets, and a budding romance between two childhood friends…As a romantic suspense this is impressive. As a debut it's amazing. This was a well-paced suspense novel with a little angsty romance thrown in. It is well written and keeps you turning the pages. Just enough information is doled out to keep the reader on the edge of her seat surmising and rethinking 'whodunnit';. I love a mystery that actually surprises me at the end without leaving me thinking that there was too much of a leap and too few clues to lead to that conclusion. Do you love small town drama? I was hooked from the first page of the book to the last page of the book and even then I wanted more...The twists, turns and storyline went in directions that the reader couldn't imagine and that made the book even better, there are not too many books that leave a reader unable to predict what is going to happen next, I truly appreciate a book that can do this for me. The author does a really good job of taking what I perceived to an impossible situation for this couple to overcome realistically, and make the outcome believable. Definitely not an easy task. The mixing points of view actually work really well to build the story which is definitely not an easy task to accomplish and I would never have pegged this as a debut novel had I not known. THIS IS A DEBUT? INCREDIBLE. I LOVED THIS. It was the best RS I've read to date. It had me hanging on every word, breath, shadow...looking for an answer to solve the ridiculously good and absorbing mystery of a wrongfully accused man and a woman viciously murdered at his supposed hands…This book had everything and the sexy time was done right. I don't like multiple pages of sex where the scenes become more about endurance and shock value than good ole' fashioned sensuality. TH writes her sexy time with a fierce and focused rawness. It reminded me of Linda Howard where the sexy time makes a much larger impact because of the way it's written not how long it is. Tons of sexual tension...lots, I loved that build up.
