โฆ Synopsis
Statistical characteristics of a 93-year long series of winter temperatures from two Hungarian and one Polish meteorological stations are investigated. All the characteristics of seasonal averages, the length of cold season, the number of extreme cold days and the annual absolute minimum of mean daily temperatures show very slight decrease in severity of Central European winters, but apart from a few characteristics, the trends are not statistically significant. The number of days with extreme cold varies in time within a wide range for each data series investigated. The persistency of winter extreme cold occurrences is a dominant characteristic; even the early spring season is significantly cooler after a severe winter.
