โฆ Synopsis
UK Offshore progress
The Crown Estate, the principal landlord of the UK's territorial waters, recently sought expressions of interest from developers who are interested in building offshore windfarms. Prospective developers had to register interest by March 20, less than six weeks after the deadline for responses to the government's 'Future Offshore' consultation. The first invitation to developers for site leases in April 2001 resulted in 18 offshore windfarms planned for development in territorial waters. The opportunity to bid for sites in the second round will be restricted to companies that have registered by the March closing date, and companies must submit a tenpage business plan that includes the scale of proposed development, including numbers of wind turbines and total proposed capacity, as well as anticipated cost to develop and building the windfarm.
