โœฆ Synopsis

Abstract

A willingness to pay (WTP) per qualityโ€adjustedโ€life year (QALY) of DKK 88 was estimated on the basis of elicited preferences for health states. The WTP per QALY estimate presented here differs considerably from that implied in contingent valuation studies, suggesting that WTP for reducing risk of death is based on other preference structures than is ex post WTP for improvements in quality of life. Results further suggest that different preference structures may exist when respondents are faced with WTP questions in which case elimination of minor health problems are associated with negligible utility. ## Abstract Despite the widespread use of qualityโ€adjusted life years (QALY) in economic evaluation studies, their utilityโ€theoretic foundation remains unclear. A model for preferences over health, money, and time is presented in this paper. Under the usual assumptions of the original QALYโ€model, a

This study addresses the question of willingness to pay (WTP) for hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in order to alleviate menopausal symptoms. The woman obtains utility from consumption of goods and health. The purchase of a treatment is represented as a shift in the health production function durin

## Abstract Although the threshold of cost effectiveness of medical interventions is thought to be ยฃ20โ€‰000โ€“ยฃ30โ€‰000 in the UK, and $50โ€‰000โ€“$100โ€‰000 in the US, it is well known that these values are unjustified, due to lack of explicit scientific evidence. Attempts at redressing the problem of rapid deterioration of the urban environment in developing countries have not produced the desired results. This is because such attempts have been mainly ad hoc and have not taken into consideration willingness to pay for improvements in the quality of the urba

## Abstract This paper describes four approaches to estimating confidence intervals for willingness to pay measures: the delta, Fieller, Krinsky Robb and bootstrap methods. The accuracy of the various methods is compared using a number of simulated datasets. In the majority of the scenarios conside
