✦ Synopsis
Abstract
A novel wideband microstrip‐to‐coplanar stripline (CPS) transition with good out‐of‐band performance for ultra‐wideband (UWB) has been proposed and developed. This transition consists of a coupled‐line structure and a stepped‐impedance shunt stub. This hybrid arrangement not only realizes impedance/field matching simultaneously in the desired passband but also achieves sharpened out‐of‐band rejection rate as inquired in UWB communication. As its operating mechanism is described, a single transition is designed to cover the whole UWB band (3.1–10.6 GHz). Predicted results are then reasonably verified in experiment in a wide band via fabrication and measurement of a back‐to‐back transition circuit. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
