Abstract

In this article, we propose a new wideband impedance‐transforming three‐port power divider using lumped elements. Instead of a π‐network used in the conventional lumped Wilkinson power divider, an L‐type matching network is employed in the new design, which keeps quality(Q)‐factors low during impedance transformation, allowing wideband performance. The simulation proves that the proposed power divider achieves wider bandwidth than the conventional one in the performance of return loss, isolation and insertion loss. A 2 GHz power divider which transforms the impedance from 25 to 50 Ω was designed using the derived equations. The measurement showed the insertion loss of −3.3 dB, return loss of −27.1 dB and isolation of −24.7 dB at 1.9 GHz with broadband performance. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
