✦ Synopsis
GTL developments
Gas-to-liquids (GTL) technology is recovering and enjoying growth due to recent technology and catalysts advancements. GTL facilities are gaining more attention as standalone projects or in combination with liquefied natural gas facilities. They are expected to concentrate on diesel and naphtha production. The worldwide demand for high-quality diesel is growing daily. GTLmanufactured naphtha is highly paraffinic and is an excellent feedstock for olefin makers. However, GTL's commercial availability as an alternative for making lubricant base oils is still unclear. Current forecasts estimate that GTL will produce between 30,000 bbl/day and 50,000 bbl/day of lubricant base oils by 2010 to 2012. A bar graph shows Oct 2004 gas processes leaders.
