According to Ray, three supervisors kept her imprisoned against her will in a disciplinary meeting that lasted more than 90 minutes, refusing her request to leave the room, and physically blocking her from doing so. Her attorney argued that it was unlawful for an employer to confine an employee in an unreasonable way for an unreasonable time. The jury awarded Ray $1,050,000 in compensation for false imprisonment.

Ray also produced evidence of several instances of alleged defamation. One supervisor called her a liar for saying that she was going to the bathroom when she was going to both the bathroom and the cafeteria.
