✦ Synopsis
The launch of ChemSusChem as well as the 120th anniversary of Angewandte Chemie in 2008, among other things, were marked by two receptions organized by Wiley-VCH and GDCh. In April, Dan Nocera was well received by over 200 participants at a reception held at the ACS Spring Meeting in New Orleans. Gabriele Centi was equally well received as he introduced ChemSusChem at a similar reception held at the 2nd EUCheMS Chemistry Congress in Turin (Italy) in September. The Editorial team were delighted to meet many of its authors, board members, and readers at both of these conferences and to hear their (positive) feedback on the first few issues of the journal. In particular, the special "Greening Chemistry" issue of ChemSusChem (8-9) compiled for the EU-CheMS Congress was very popular with the attendees there.
Visibility for any journal is important, and particularly so for a new one. We are pleased, therefore, that ChemSusChem is now indexed by PubMed (MEDLINE) and covered by Thomson ISI, ensuring better visibility of the journal and its content, dating back to the inaugural issue. Furthermore, to our delight, a selection of articles from the 140 contributions that appeared in Volume 1 of ChemSusChem received extended coverage in Chemical & Engineering News and New Scientist. The articles in question-Communications by Huber, Kou, and Christensen-feature among the top 5 most accessed articles at ChemSusChem in 2008 (Table 1).
The most common themes from the past 12 months, as derived from the tag cloud (keyword) feature on our homepage, include glycerol, homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis, hydrogen, industrial chemistry, materials science, oxidation, ChemSusChem is an international journal of chemistry and sustainability, energy and materials. It is co-owned by the Chemistry Publishing Society Europe (ChemPubSoc Europe), supported by the Asian Chemical Editorial Society (ACES), and published by Wiley-VCH. Contributions in ChemSusChem cover research at the interface of chemistry and sustainability with energy research, materials science, chemical engineering, biotechnology, and environmental research. ChemSusChem publishes Communications and Full Papers, Reviews and Minireviews, Highlights, Concepts, and Essays, Book Reviews, and Conference Reports. Authors can submit articles to ChemSusChem online. Just go to our homepage (http://www.chemsuschem.org), click on "Online Submission of Manuscripts", and follow the simple instructions.
