✦ Synopsis


AImtract-A finite element procedure based on a variational principle for elastic fields with unbounded energy of deformation is introduced for determining weight functions in finite notched bodies. The notched body considered is linear elastic, isotropic and piecewise homogeneous and deforming in antiplane strain. This finite element procedure is simple and can be incorporated easily into standard finite element codes. We illustrate the versatility and accuracy of this method by considering some sample mixed boundary value problems which have exact solutions.
