✦ Synopsis

Many debilitating, chronic diseases in the population are caused by autoimmunity. Diseases such as psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are the subject of web sites which seek to educate patients and keep medical practitioners up to date with advances in treatment regimes and research.

'National Psoriasis Foundation' http://www.psoriasis.org An excellent web site with illustrations and case histories. The site includes educational material designed specifically for children and teenagers with psoriasis. This site also includes links to sites detailing research into psoriasis and other autoimmune diseases.

'NIAMS' http://www.nih.g ov/niams/healthinfo/psoriafs.htm A useful fact sheet on psoriasis from the US National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases at the NIH. 'IDDM' http://www.niddk.nih.gov/InsulinDependentDiabeteslnsulin DependentDiabetes.html An excellent introduction to diabetes from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), with links to diabetes resources and a review of advances in the treatment of diabetes.
