Advanced lightwave technology for future undersea cable network, in Ž . which wavelength-division-multiplexing WDM plays an important role, is presented. Ultra-large-capacity transmission on the order of 100 Gbrs using Ž . NRZ-WDM and soliton or RZ -WDM as well as flexible, survivable, and secure networking functions as represented by an optical add᎐drop multiplexing and optical cross-connect are discussed.
