Both ultraviolet irradiation and oxidation of DNA produce a variety of pyrimidine base damages. A human endonuclease recognizes such altered bases on these DNA substrates. This human endonuclease incises ultraviolet-irradiated DNA exclusively at sites of photochemically modified cytosines. The preci
