Trout farming is constantly increasing and poses a serious threat to water quality of clean highland streams. In the present work, we investigated the influence of the farm with the highest trout production in Serbia on water quality and macrozoobenthos communities of the receiving stream, the Trešn

✦ Synopsis
Abstract
The influence of the fishpond on the chemical composition of the stream was mainly demonstrated by a higher concentration of organic matter and total phosphorus. Altogether, 128 species of algae and cyanobacteria were recorded in the stream. The species richness of phytobenthos per site was very similar. We observed the presence of typical phytoplankton species among the phytobenthos assemblages. Cyanobacteria species (Woronichinia naegeliana) were particularly dominant in the phytoplankton of the fishpond in autumn. Altogether, we identified 164 taxa of benthic macroinvertebrates in running waters of the stream. The structure of macrozoobenthos communities from all localities of the stream indicated good water quality and a low influence of environmental stressors with no negative effects of the fishpond. In total, six fish species were registered in all profiles. The condition of the fish population was mainly influenced by the fishery management of the stream (stocking, angling). Generally, the influence of the discharge water from the fishpond was recognizable in small changes in both chemical and biological variables of the stream. (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. ## Abstract This study tests if the coarse particulate organic matter (CPOM) mass was related to the invertebrate community structure in riffles and sandy pools of a fourth‐order reach of a stream after partialling out the effects of physical characteristics of the sampled patches. Diversity and st
A fish-based Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) was adapted for use in a stream of the heavily impacted Piracicaba River basin in southeastern Brazil. The influences of land use (mainly sugar-cane crops) and an urban area on the fish community were investigated at ten sites along a 17 km-long stream du
This article presents the results of studies on lysimeters and drainage carried out in the karst zone of Lithuania. The studies included the estimation of the changes of water quality in a soil profile of moraine loam and sandy loam soils in respect of the land usage and fertilization intensity. Flu
The results of field tests to investigate the influence of soil type and soil water on the wear of soil tillage tools are presented. The soil water had a positive effect for loam and clay soils because the wear decreased as the water content increased. For sandy soils however, wear increased with so
