The methanol barrier layer adopted for high-concentration direct methanol fuel cells (HC-DMFCs) increases water transport resistance, and makes water management in HC-DMFCs more challenging and critical than that in the conventional direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) without a methanol barrier layer.
