This is the first report about the optical spectra of radiation defects in rare gas solids. The study of these defects, induced by means of X-rays, has been carried out by using free single crystals of krypton with a thickness of 1 cm. Four new absorption bands in the spectral range from 6.5 to 9.6
The polarized 10 K single-crystal absorption spectra of Mn-doped BaSO 4 are reinterpreted and the first luminescence spectra are presented. As a consequence of the high-temperature preparation there is a simultaneous presence of MnO43-and MnO42-in the BaSO 4 host with a ratio close to one. This is m
