The history of an old mounted bird specimen in the ornithological collection of the Natural History Museum in Berlin is described. This female bird, called "Jacob" by its owner, is a Vasa Parrot (Coracopsis vasa) which lived 30 years up to its death as Alexander von Humboldt's pet. In contrast to mo
