✦ Synopsis

The voltammetric response of Zn in NaOH solutions containing different Na,S concentrations showed that for potentials located between the beginning of Zn anodic oxidation and Zn passivation, ZnS formation can be observed as a result of an initial competitive adsorption between OH-and sulphide ions for Zn sites. The anodic layer on Zn in alkaline solution changes from a ZnS layer at high Na,S concentration to a ZnO/Zn(OH), layer in Na,S-free solution. A complex layer, probably involving a defective ZnS layer with ZnO domains is produced within a certain OH-/sulphide ion concentration ratio range in the solution. The stability of these layers depends on the applied potential.

The triangular potential sweep voltammetric studies were carried out on pure tin (99.9999 %) in NaOH solutions (l-10 N). The forward scan revealed two distinguished peaks in the region -1.12 to -0.9 V US see and at faster sweep rates a single peak appeared. Oscillations were observed in the E-i curv

We have analysed the use of chemically reactive liquid curtains for the containment of accidental releases of phosgene. Experiments performed on absorbers with widely different diffusion times gave results which appeared to imply a different stoichiometry of the main reaction between phosgene and so
