UNXELBACH: B i o m e t r i e i n d e r c h e m i s c h -p h a r m a z e u t i s c h e n I n d us t r i e 2.Gustav Fisrher Verlag, Stuttgart -New York 1985, vii, 134 pp., 53 Figs., 6 Tab., DM 42,-Usually, drugs are administered t o patients in'various routes (intraveneous, dermal, oral, etc.), doses.etc. The number of cases whereonly asingledrug is required to treat diseases is very seldom, especially, in adult patients. Therefore, mixtures of drugs are applied in daily practice. On t h e other hand, traditional statistical analysis of data from bioassay designs is based on the one-drug/ one-receptor model. In an attempt to resolve the difficulties of more real designs, joint action must be considered. Strictly speaking, more graphical and more analytical models may be distinguished. The book gives a summary about the most important techniques. Because of the very complex problem, many statistical models raise a number of questions about the general properties of estimators and test statistics, however. It seems that a general model is a dream because most designs require that discipline-specific questions are more taken into account (such as pharmacokinetic interactions).
