โฆ Synopsis
A lot of volatile compounds were extracted from unprinted paperboard by means of steam distillation and analysed via gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. The majority of volatiles stem from auto-oxidation of unsaturated lipids within residual resins, accompanied by resinous ยฏavour components and short-chain fatty acids. The concentration levels of several oxidation products increase during storage of board. Depending on the ratio of their concentrations and their speciยฎc odour threshold values, some of the volatile compounds contribute to odour intensity in paperboard. In general, paperboards with striking off odours show relatively high concentrations of such volatile and odorous compounds.
