✦ Synopsis

Sixteen patients with tardive dyskinesia were treated with vitamin E in an open trial of on±o±on design. Abnormal involuntary movement scale (AIMS) ratings were performed in every phase of the study. The patients exhibited a signi®cant reduction in their mean AIMS score during vitamin E treatment. Thus, this ®nding may suggest a possible role for vitamin E in the treatment of tardive dyskinesia.

Six patients with severe and stable tardive dyskinesia were treated with verapamil, a calcium channel blocker, in doses ranging from 240 to 400 mg/day. Weekly assessments were made using the Simpson tardive dyskinesia rating scale. Neuroleptic medication was held constant during the 3-month baseline
