conclude that the greater part of the water which reaches the surface of the United States as rain or snow contains at that time less than 0.3 part of chloride anion per million, and not more than 2 parts of sulphate anion per million. These concentrations correspond, respectively, to o.o7 pound of chloride anion and o. 15 pound of sulphur per acre per inch of rain-fall.
