certain ranges of parameters. This hehaviour can be explained by the interaction between the change in the intrinsic rate of reaction and effective diffusivities as well as the equilibrium constant. The behaviour of q for multiple reversible reactions can he explained on the same basis. However, it is more complicated than the case of a single reversible reaction discussed in this communication.

It is clear that this behaviour cannot be explained without taking into consideration the effect of the equilibrium constant as explained in this short communication.

A detailed investigation of this phenomenon for a number of industrially important reversible reactions is under way in this department.

The rate of reaction of dissolved oxygen and sulphite ions in diluted aqueous solutions, which has industrial importance in abatement of air pollution by sulphur dioxide, was investigated in homogeneous and in heterogeneous systems. Cobaltous sulphate was used as a catalyst. The rate of sulphite ox

## Abstract Gum ghatti contains a soluble gum and an insoluble gel which partially dissolves on boiling. Maceration of the gel in water gives a perfectly stable dispersion which for practical purposes behaves as a solution. The viscosity of the gel dispersion is __ca__ 10โ€“30 times that of the solub
