✦ Synopsis

The fluorescence and the photoisomerization quantum yields of MC540 have been measured in glycerol-ethanol mixtures. These values are shown to be viscosity dependent. A decrease in the possibilities of dye movement favours the fluorescence over the process of photoisomerization. The production of singlet oxygen ( '02) does not seem to be modified.
