We noticed the Urushi film, by which oriental lacquer wares are prepared. The effect of water on mechanical properties of oriental lacquer film was investigated in a tensile test and a stress relaxation test. These tests were conducted under the various degrees of humidity. Oriental lacquer film had

β¦ Synopsis
The storage modulus (EΠ) and loss modulus (EΠ) of Japanese lacquer films were measured over a temperature range of Οͺ150 to 400Β°C. Three relaxation processes labeled β£, β€, and β₯ were detected at 80, Οͺ60, and Οͺ140Β°C, and their apparent activation energies (β¬E) were 63-91, 13, and 9 kcal/mol, respectively. These were attributed to the micro-Brownian motions of polymerized urushiol, the molecular motion related to the absorbed water, and the motions of methylene groups in the side chains, respectively. With aging at room temperature, the location of the β£ peak shifted to higher temperature and its β¬E value decreased. This result was ascribed to the autoxidative polymerization of urushiol. The EΠ of lacquer films increased with heat treatments at 100Β°C or above. When treated at temperatures below 200Β°C, the location of the β£ peak shifted to higher temperature, with a reduction in the β¬E value. Heat treatments at 200Β°C or above resulted in remarkable shrinkage and weight loss of films owing to the pyrolysis of lacquer constituents.

The zone-drawing method was applied to chemically synthesized polyaniline cast films of emeraldine base under various applied tensions and drawing temperatures. The changes in the microstructure and viscoelastic properties of the resulting films were investigated. It was found that the microstructur
The viscoelastic behavior of three alkyd ceramers was studied using dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA). A commercial product was compared to model alkyds. The model alkyds were prepared from phthalic anhydride, glycerol, and linseed or sunflower seed oil. Three sol-gel precursors, titanium t
In the literature there is a paucity of comparative data concerning the viscoelastic properties of plasticized polymers. Why, in particular, are certain polymers used more often in plasticized form than in others? To obtain some data we selected the polymers polystyrene, polymethyl methacrylate, an
