✦ Synopsis

Graft copolymerizations of methyl methacrylate (MMA) on polymeric sulphoxides, e.g. poly(methyl-4-vinylbenzylsulphoxide) and poly(methyl-4-vinylphenylsulphoxide), in the presence of molybdenum(III) chloride (MoCI3), have been carried out in ethylene chloride at 60. The influences of temperature, MoC13 concentration and concentration of the backbone chain on monomer conversion have been investigated. Uncrosslinked graft copolymers are formed with high efficiency.
