✦ Synopsis
The detectability of the image of an object immersed in a scattering medium and transilluminated by a multi-mode laser pulse can be enhanced by cross-correlating the transmitted field with a fraction of the incident one in a b-barium borate crystal. We show that this effect arises from the interplay of the temporal coherence properties of the interacting fields, even in the presence of a modest coherence such as that of a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser pulse.
