✦ Synopsis
V. S. Safronov, the leading planetary cosmogonist of the 20th century, passed away in Moscow on September 18, 1999. Victor was born in the town of Velikie Luki, situated near Estonia in the Pskov region of northwest Russia, on October 11, 1917, less than a month before the Bolsheviks seized power. Thus, although he was born and died in Russia, he lived most of his life in the Soviet Union.
