β¦ Synopsis
Nickel dimer ions produced and cooled in a supersonic expansion are studied by two-color resonant photodissociation. Five excited electronic states have been analyzed and their corresponding vibrational frequencies, anharmonicities and electronic origins are presented. The vibrational quantum numbering for all the assigned transitions has been determined via analysis of the spectra of the naturally occurring isotopic variants of the molecule. The ground state stretching frequency for the 58Nil is estimated from this isotopic analysis as 270 & 25 cm-'.
