✦ Synopsis

Free vibrations of thick rotating cross-ply laminated composite cylindrical shells are studied based on the "rst order shear deformation shell theory (FSDT). The governing equations of "ve degrees of freedom with consideration of Coriolis accelerations and rotary inertias are established. Analytical solutions to the equations are obtained to calculate the frequencies of the shells. Numerical results are presented and compared with those available in the literature. In addition, frequency characteristics of thin and thick shells are investigated with respect to the variations of rotating speeds, circumferential wave numbers, and length and thickness ratio.
