โฆ Synopsis
Abstraยซt--We investigate a mathematical model for the dynamics of a beam with a tip body that experiences damping. The damping is due to granular material which partiaUy fills the tip body. We establish the existence of the unique solution to the model and analyze the model. Among other things, we establish exponential energy decay when damping is present.

This paper describes an analytical model for a beam system, based on a modiยฎed Timoshenko theory, where the beam is pinned to a hub driven by an actuator at one end and is subject to a heavy load at the other end. A new ecient computational algorithm is then proposed for solving the higher-order non
