✦ Synopsis

Inelastic neutron scattering and thermal conductivity data suggest that vibrational modes in quasicrystals are mostly confined into the basic atomic clusters of their self-similar structure. Heat transport obeys a hierarchically variable range hopping mechanism and shows power law dependence on temperature each side of a plateau of constant conductivity around 50 K.
