Coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) has been used to observe Hz from HzCO + hv + Hz + CO. Photolysis of K= 1 (or&o) lines of the 2l4l S1 + So transition produced no para-Hz (<4% statistical); and demonstrated nuclear spin conservation\_ H2 states u = I,2 and 3 were comparably populated.
